ROCK ME, AMAGEO! is a small hosted payload mission for telecommunications that will allow for maximum spin-in in different manners.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! will be an ESA-initiative to community-build a small hosted telecom payload to be hosted on a commercial geo satellite.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! shall be developed in association with radio amateurs, the European citizin-engineering community, open source community. It will be complemented by an educational campaign and supporting material for at least 20.000 students that will experience the usefulness and beauty of satellite communications.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! is supported by the worldwide AMSAT (Amateur Satellite) community (Letters of Support pending), and a large number of industrial parties are likely to express their support.
The ROCK ME AMAGEO! payload shall preferable allow communication with devices that are familiar to ordinary people (e.g. smartphones, IoT devices). All aspects of the design will be open source to trigger further innovation, and shall explicitly contribute to ESA’s reputation as an innovator.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! will be an ESA-initiative to community-build a small hosted telecom payload to be hosted on a commercial geo satellite. The hosted payload will not only be enabled by spin-in RF technology, but will also use advanced processing capabilities and SSD storage on-board and is accompanied by innovative ground and user segment.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! shall operate under amateur services licensing, opening the door to all kinds of innovative experiments which could not be performed otherwise.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! shall be developed in association with radio amateurs, the European citizin-engineering community, a large open source community. It will be complemented by an educational campaign and supporting material for at least 20.000 students that will experience the added-value and beauty of satellite communications.
ROCK ME, AMAGEO! could be shaped as an ESA competitive or direct negotiation activity in which one partner engages with the community that brings the necessary innovation. ESA will leverage upon its relation with operators and industry
